DIRECTOR'S NOTES:

• Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No monologue is required.
• There is no dance in this show, but there is a good deal of physical comedy; you may be asked to do some movement, so dress comfortably.
• Age ranges given are playing ages. We welcome anyone 18 and up to audition for this show.
• Rehearsal schedules will be based as much as possible on cast conflicts, so be sure to note any days/times you are not available. There will be no rehearsals scheduled Friday evenings or Saturday evenings. No conflicts permitted during tech week (Feb 28 th -March 4 th )

SYNOPSIS:
Four couples gather at the home of Charley Brock, the Deputy Mayor of New York, to celebrate his 10 th anniversary with his wife Myra, only to discover that Charley has accidentally shot himself in the ear and Myra is nowhere to be found. In a desperate attempt to protect the reputation of the Brocks and other high-powered guests at the party, stories are made up and questions are evaded. When the police get involved, the hilarity heightens even more. Rumors is a fast-paced farce with quick dialogue and, of course, many, many doors.

CHARACTERS:

• KEN GORMAN (M) – (40s-50s) A well-to-do lawyer. Takes charge of the situation.
  Married to Chris. Halfway through the show, a gunshot causes his temporary deafness.
• CHRIS GORMAN (F) – (30s-50s) Another lawyer, married to Ken. Easily flustered.
  Frantically tries to maintain normalcy at the party. Has recently quit smoking, which
  drives her to drink a bit more.
• LENNY GANZ (M) – (30s-50s) A wealthy accountant, distraught over the recent
  destruction of his new car. Starts the show with an extreme case of whiplash.
• CLAIRE GANZ (F) – (30s-50s) Lenny’s wife. Very concerned with appearances and
  loves to gossip.
• ERNIE CUSACK (M) – (40s-60s) A friendly, down-to-earth psychiatrist. Loves his wife
  very much. Tries to be as helpful as possible to everyone.
• COOKIE CUSACK (F) – (40s-60s) Has her own cooking show. Suffers from extreme
  back spasms. Loves her husband very much. A bit absent-minded at times.
• GLENN COOPER (M) – (30s-50s) A handsome man running for State Senate. Worried
  about his reputation. Struggles with placating his wife, who is convinced he is having an
  affair.
• CASSIE COOPER (F) – (20s-40s) Glenn’s beautiful wife. Obsesses over her husband’s relationships with other women. Quick to anger and revenge. Must rub her quartz
  crystal to calm herself down.
• OFFICER WELCH (M or F) – (Any age) A city police officer having a rough night. Does
  not tolerate lying.
• OFFICER PUDNEY (M or F) – (Any age) Welch’s partner. A strong but silent type.
